Gonzaga ASC Mission Statement
The Alumni Service Corps forms a lifelong commitment to service and faith in its members through a vibrant community life, shared prayer and reflection, and ongoing vocational discernment. Drawing its inspiration from the spiritual vision of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the tradition of the Jesuits, the Alumni Service Corps enriches Gonzaga College High School by serving its students. Because they exemplify the grad at grad, ASC members serve as educators in every setting.
Program Description
The Alumni Service Corps is a ten-month program (August to June) for young Gonzaga graduates who are dedicated to service and community life. Participants work on campus and live together in intentional community in a house near campus provided by the school.
ASC members work as full-time substitute teachers, coaches, club moderators, etc., and in some cases (depending on an individual’s degree work and Gonzaga’s needs), they may be paired with a Master Teacher to assist with a specific class. Their first assignment is to serve as substitute teachers, but they then also spend periods when their days will include work in a particular office, such as campus ministry, the library, student services, or that of the head master. Their work is complimented by a community house and shared spirituality of prayer and reflection.
In addition to housing, Gonzaga provides health insurance and a modest living stipend.
