Bring Your Own Device
Gonzaga College High School is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) school. All students are required to bring to school on a daily basis a laptop or tablet that meets a minimum set of requirements.
Gonzaga’s BYOD program allows students to build 21st century skills in a controlled and supportive environment. Likewise, the program gives students the opportunity to become critical users of technology instead of passive consumers.

The essence of a BYOD program is informed choice. Students and parents are able to choose which tablet or laptop to bring to Gonzaga.
- Families can choose to use the device the student is already comfortable with.
- Families have the choice to bring the device that is best for the individual student for both school and non-school needs.
- Families have the choice to determine which applications and programs are best for the assignment.
- Where possible, families have the choice to use a digital textbook or a physical one.
- Familes can choose to update their device as their son's needs change.
Since students will possess a variety of devices, all Gonzaga students will use uniform applications, including Canvas and Google Apps for Education, as the backbone of the BYOD plan.
- Canvas is Gonzaga’s learning management system. On Canvas, students are able to retrieve class resources, submit both traditional and multimedia assignments, participate in web forums, and collaborate with peers in a safe and user-friendly digital space.
- Google Apps for Education is Gonzaga’s productivity suite. In addition to using Gmail, Gonzaga faculty and students are able to use Docs, Sheets, and Slides, among countless other apps, and they have unlimited cloud storage for papers, multimedia projects, and other online resources.
- Since these apps are cloud-based programs, students can access them from any web-enabled device, including smartphones and tablets with the Canvas app (iOS, Android) and the Google Drive app (iOS, Android).
