Joe Viola '83-Head Coach 

The 2014 season marked the return of Joe to the helm of the Gonzaga Water Polo program after a one year retirement. A member of Gonzaga College High School’s faculty/staff since the fall of 1991, Joe is currently a History teacher, with over thirty years of coaching experience. In 2002 Joe helped start Gonzaga's Water Polo team along with some dedicated student-athletes. Starting with only one team of sixteen players, the team has grown into three teams (Varsity, JV “A” & JV “B”) with over fifty student-athletes playing.  Joe played water polo at the University of Richmond in the early 80’s.  Joe can be best be contacted at: jviola@gonzaga.org.

Tom Popp

In 2015 Tom rejoined the Gonzaga water polo staff after a short hiatus. Tom was an All-American at the US Naval Academy (USNA ’89) and member of the US National Team (1989 to 1991).  In 2007 and 2008, he served as a volunteer assistant water polo coach at USNA and helped guide Navy to two NCAA Eastern Championships and two Final Four appearances. Tom is also no stranger to the Jesuit community, having attended high school at Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, CA. A recently retired U.S. Navy Captain, Tom works for a defense contractor working on a projects with the US Navy.

 Dominick Pugliese '08

Nick played water polo for four years at Gonzaga College High Schoolgraduating in 2008. Nick attend Princeton University where he was a four year member of the Princeton University team that won the Eastern Championship in 2010 and 2012, and twice placed 3rd in the NCAA Final Four.  He coached Gonzaga's JV B team as a member of the Alumni Service Corps in 2012-2013, and returned to Eye Street in 2016 as a history teacher and water polo coach.

Tommy Williams ‘14

Tommy was introduced to water polo at Gonzaga during his freshman, and played all four years while a student; serving as captain of the team his senior year. The 2016 season will be his second year coaching the JV B team. He is currently enrolled at the University of Maryland where he is studying secondary education and history, and he is a member of the club U of MD water polo team.
